Tips and Hacks for Aging Skin

Tips and Hacks for Aging Skin

In your 30s, you may start to see the signs of aging such as wrinkles and fine lines. Your skin will also become  a bit drier and less elastic. This is a result of the natural aging process, which contributes to a decrease in collagen production. Your type of skin and climate will play a role is what will work best for you but, there are many  things you can do to keep your skin looking young and healthy for years. I'm going to share some of the basics and my favorite hacks and products to help you maintain optimal skin health at any age!

1. Mouisture/izer

This is the most important part of your skin care, which is why we will cover a few ways to make sure you have optimal moisturized skin. Climate has a huge impact on your skin will age. People in humid weather can get away without as much moisturizer as people who live in a dry climate, humidity and the lack of have their  pros and cons, but when is comes to aging skin you can never have too much moisture. That's why adding a humidifier to your home is a great way to combat living is a dry climate, if moving to Hawaii isn't an option!

There are different types of moisturizer, I use different ones at different times of day or season but finding the best match for you is definitely worth the time.

Cream, Serum, Oils and Gel are the most common.

Cream is nice and thick especially if you need the extra moisture, I tend to use more creams in the winter because of the dry weather.

Serums are more of an liquid consistency and may or may not be oil based. I use serums at night time and they are mostly reparative meaning they have antiaging qualities, the more you care for your skin at night the better it will look in the daytime.

Oils, I love oils but you need to careful with what you use on your face because you can clog up your pores so make sure its meant for the face, I use this also at night and alternate between serums and oils, don't be afraid to look like a glazed donut at night! Argan Oil is great for the face and can be found everywhere

I was also amazed by this one

ELEMIS Pro-Collagen Rose Facial Oil

Gels are great for daytime they absorb quicker and are great under makeup, I swear by these two brands because they give me a nice clean feel and give slick to my makeup.

and ALWAYS use an eye cream!

2. Collagen

A protein naturally produced in the body, is also a popular supplement and beauty product ingredients. Your body naturally makes collagen, but this production decreases with age. The marketing for collagen products claims they can improve skin elasticity, reduce visible wrinkles, and increase blood flow to the skin. Collagen comes in pill, powder, or even topical in creams. I like to add unflavored collagen to my morning coffee and I use this brand

Green Lakes Collagen

3. Exfoliate

We all want radiant, glowing skin, but as we age because cell turnover slows down and dead skin cells can give us a dull complexion.  With proper exfoliating you can safely and effectively remove the layer of dead skin and restore your healthy, vibrant glow, in addition it helps prevent pore clogging, acne spots, blackheads, and whiteheads. Exfoliating may help allow moisturizers to better penetrate the skin and help your foundation glide on smoothly instead of sitting on flaky skin.

4. BB/CC Cream/ Concealer

With aging skin, foundation can be tricky, less is always more and matte products are NOT your friend, matte products especially skin products can  make your skin look very dry and settle into the fine lines and in turn make you look older than you are.  Hydrating foundation, BB creams, and spot concealer are your best bet and always remember to prime your skin with hydration.

Here are some products at Sephora

Merit Beauty is great for a no makeup- makeup look

5. Lips

As we age, the supporting collagen, fat pads, and muscles in and around the lip area steadily diminish, resulting in thinner lips that may look dryer. Lipstick can tend to look heavy and and may dry the lips out further so my favorite everyday hack is to use a lip liner than is a shade or two darker than my natural lip color, line it around your lips and if you want- generously on the inside (doesn't need to be perfect) and add a chapstick on top for a natural full and hydrated lip.
